2026 season intro text

—Jeffrey Mousseau & Paul Ricciardi, Directors

Saturday, May 30 & Sunday, May 31
at Ancram Center for the Arts

by Heather Christian & Taylor Mac

A new music work by MacArthur Fellows Taylor Mac and Heather Christian exploring radical empathy across the political divide. Ancram audiences are invited to a listening party featuring selections from the piece, followed by a conversation with the creators and a shared song — leaving the room a little less divided.

July 17-19 and July 22-26
at Ancram Center for the Arts

by Sarah Ruhl

Based on the book by Sarah Ruhl and Max Ritvo

A poetic, intimate play drawn from the real correspondence between playwright Sarah Ruhl and her former student Max Ritvo as he faces terminal illness, exploring friendship, language, and what poetry can hold.

August 7-9 and August 12-16
at various locations in Ancram

Written and performed by Todd Almond

A critically acclaimed musical journey transplanting The Odyssey into the modern world of dating, where the monsters are nosy neighbors and the path runs through self-deprecation, heartfelt longing, and offbeat humor. Accompanied by harp and bass, Almond's original songs trace a humorous and profound story about fear and love.

September 25–27, October 1–4, October 8–11
at Ancram Center for the Arts

by Caryl Churchill

A beguiling hour-long psychological thriller set in the near future, A Number centers on a father and his three sons — two of whom are clones of the first. With all three sons played by the same actor, the play probes questions of identity, nature versus nurture, and what makes us uniquely human — while offering a prescient glimpse at life in the age of AI.
